Jessica Swift rain boots

Cue girlish squeals! I am soooooooo excited about Jessica Swift's rain boot line coming out! I get her regular email updates and have been watching her Kickstarter page get closer and closer to her goal and voila! It's happened!



Her patterns are super fun, colorful, bright (just like her paintings) and I just love them. Sadly (kind of), we don't get much rain here in sunny San Diego, so buying rain boots isn't exactly the most USEFUL way I could spend my money, but it's one of the funnest!

I think what finally got me to realize that drooling over the wonderfulness of the boot project wasn't going to get me merrily clomping around in a pair was when she kept blogging about painting and being inspired just by getting off the computer and into the studio. I particularly liked the pink whale painting:


I knew that this pattern-making spunky lady of the South is a woman after my own heart and I must, simply must, get a pair of these boots. I eagerly anticipate the next chance of showers (a.k.a. marine layer threatening to spit about a half inch) so I can throw on my bright yellow raincoat and splash around in the "puddles".

Having a sassy apron always seemed like an oxymoron to me. Why would you buy an adorable accessory that you obviously WON'T want to dirty up to wear while protecting yourself from doing just that? However, I feel like this is one of those mysteries that perhaps men will never understand, and women will continue to participate in without fulling knowing why until the end of time. Or spacesuits. Either way.

Until we either come to our senses and start buying ugly aprons, Cordial Lee has a great selection that I am absolutely in love with. Aprons are only a small part of the collection, but I'm already in love with this gem, the Bib Audrey Woven Houndstooth Adult Apron:

Free People is a really neat little line of clothes out of South Carolina (or at least that's their mailing address). Their stuff is carried at a handful of large retailers that fancy themselves exclusive, like Anthropologie (which I love but is too expensive and at the end of the day it's a chain!) Anyway, North Park has this great little store called Material on University Avenue right by 30th Street. It's to North Park what Need Supply is to Richmond. I've been eyeing this dress since I first went in there and now that it's on sale I am SO tempted to go try it on. Honestly I'm half hoping it will look terrible on me so I can stop obsessing over it, but the other half hopes that this will be the most awesome dress ever. For $64 I might be able to deal with it. If it slips away from me I would be one sad lady.

Loungefly and Vintage Religion

I've been introduced to Loungefly via Vintage Religion, a small independent store in North Park with a variety of religious goods and related items. Loungefly's Dia de los Muertos shirts, rockabilly-esque purses, and kitschy items are freakin' adorable. I love this bag (which for some reason is not listed on their website):

Nicely priced, about $60 for the large weekender purse and around $24 for the designer shirts. Not any more than you'd pay at Urban Outfitters for the seemingly "one of a kind" t-shirts that actually are mass produced by the thousands. Either way, they've got great stuff for all religions at Vintage Religion, and you should check out the Loungefly site as well for their sale items and wider selection.

ladyishness

My mom always told me that ONE DAY i would outgrow my jeans and t-shirt phase. I never believed her... but I think that day might be here. I think I have finally realized that I am actually a lady and should make more of an attempt to let other people know this. I have one sundress so far and a very very small amount of "nice" dresses for weddings and real dress up things. I don't really care about most band t-shirts and stuff anymore. I need to start making more of an effort to not just grab the usual t-shirt and shorts that I go for without thinking, and maybe consider wearing a skirt or something instead.
