photos

When I don't have any new items to post, new events coming up, or just something new and exciting, I'll start posting a photo montage! I have a lot of pictures that I just kind of have... so they might not all fit together or make sense... but here goes!

Just a couple of shots from the last month or so... I haven't edited anything in Photoshop, but I kind of miss doing that on a regular basis. I need to get back into the habit. Anyway, here's the scoop.

1) Balboa Park Cactus Garden- I just thought the perfect round cactus shape with the weird blues of the unidentifiable plants were really cool. I love nature!
2) Prickly!
3) Skull decal in LA... I'm sure I'd get sick of all the snarky street art if I lived there, but for now I just think it's cool.
4) Balboa Park again... I just thought it was cool the way the sun split the tree. No major artistic insight there.
5)San Diego zoo- flamingos are sweet, and I like how crisp this turned out just as the sun was starting to sink.
6) Ashton likes to take ugly pictures of me when it looks like I have legs like a goat that bend backwards.
7) Wall in LA. There's old stuff there?!?!
8) Leprosy leaves in Balboa Park. Not really. But maybe.
9) I've based entire portfolios around the concept of geometry in nature, so these naturally hexagonal pink cactii will probably be popping up a few more times

Orlando

I'm flying to Orlando tonight for the North American Food Equipment and Manufacturing Show. Yippee! If anything, it's at least a few firsts for me-

My first red-eye flight
My first trade show
My first time to Florida
My first time flying absolutely alone (I've always had at least a friend with me)
Apparently it will also be my first toga party... which I will be attending with my boss and our East Coast Sales Manager. I am told that there is no better way to bond with your employer than over a few drinks, but this whole thing sounds like shenanigans to me. We'll see!

Anyway, I'll be flying back to San Diego to arrive around noon on Sunday. Then it's right back to the grind Monday morning. Stay positive! And drink copious amounts of coffee...

photo of the day

Weird cactus bud things that look plastic. Click on it for a much bigger picture. Not super dynamic since it's a phone pic, but interesting.

my brain just exploded

YES they are in fact DIY MUNNY SPEAKERS!!!!!!!!! Via Instructables, this would basically rule my life in terms of being cute AND functional. This is absolutely a project that I want to undertake at some point. Now that I have my giant work table, I'll probably move my laptop into the craft room and hook up some jamz with these bad boys. I would definitely be the coolest kid on the block.

AWWW YEAH

MUNNY on the Run! from Kidrobot on Vimeo.

New goal- revamp this whole shebang. This blog needs a major facelift. New layout, more pictures, more emphasis on quality, perhaps weekly updates on certain topics like Toy Tuesday or something along those lines. No more "I Like Coffee!" spur of the moment posts (unless it's REALLY a defining moment in the day), and I want to take more pictures on my Nikon D40X instead of just my phone due to convenience. I mean, the phone is alright, but I'm excited to go camping in Idlewild this weekend and maybe get some good stuff going on to jump start this jam.

I mean, photography is the easiest, most immediate way to capture something beautiful! There's only thought, and very little action, to snip out a piece of the world to share with others. How can I be passing this up? Well, I know exactly why. It's bulky and cumbersome to just carry around for whenever the mood strikes. I need to talk to my grandfather (who is an insane photo enthusiast) about getting a small digital camera to just pop into my purse for everyday use.

Anyway, changes are coming. The winds are shifting and now that my weekdays are taken up by a real job, I'm going to start focusing on where this is going to take me and what I can do to continue to better myself as a person and as an artist. Yesterday I was looking at graduate school materials for Otis College of Art and Design in LA. LA would be a great place to go to art school, but I know that right now at this very moment I am not in the right state of mind to even seriously consider this very massive step. I need to get straight and get involved and get some stuff done to prove to myself and schools that I've got what it takes to go balls out. I've also put out feelers for learning how to knit. Just being able to do something with my hands, especially something where I could multitask and hang out or watch movies or whatever during would be great.

I hope my enthusiasm and zeal don't wane or turn into nothing. I have a realistic view of what I can accomplish right now with no money and no studio, but as long as I dig my heels in and plan accordingly, I think I'll be able to slowly but surely get on my way. Here's hoping!

day of the dead

I like Day of the Dead stuff. I like bunnies. I like drawing. This little number is just a weird take on things. I think it has promise.

GROW HAIR GROW!

GROW HAIR GROW
GROW MIGHTY AND STRONG
GROW LIKE THE MIGHTY PRARIE GRASS
GROW LITTLE FOLLICLES
STIMULATE YOURSELVES WITH LENGTH AND STRENGTH
DRAPE YOURSELVES ALONG MY NECK
CARESS MY SHIRT COLLAR
AND BE MIGHTY AND SILKEN

my hair is at the awkward stage at the moment, but fortunately for my annual hair-growth vow i am penniless and have no money for food, much less a haircut. hair tips, consider yourselves safe for now, but i need to start seeing some progress here. i thought i would motivate them with a poem.

favorite word

I really like patterns in words and numbers. I can remember phone numbers and credit card numbers if there are certain patterns within them, and I like the way certain letters look next to one another more than others. For example, I kind of hate the way my license plates look, because they start with KMA. I just don't really like the way that K looks with M and A. They're all too pointy. I wish it was an S or B or U or something. anything but K. I know it's freakish and obsessive, but I don't care. It's a quirk.

I have recently discovered that my favorite word is "muffin". Not only are muffins delicious, it is the perfect combination of letters. I am a huge fan of double letter/number combinations (which means i can never change my phone number because it has 599 in it and I love that more than anything). I also like that you can easily picture the word as the object, meaning I can see the word muffin shaped as a muffin. It makes so much sense. I love saying it. Muffin.

tegan

tegan is a dog that experiences very simple emotions at all times. she is either terrified, ecstatic, or sleeping. i can't decide if i hate her or not. it's a confusing thing. i think i feel sorry for her because she treads the fine line of "she is so ugly, but is she actually cute?". she licks too much, that's for sure.

fun

i stole this picture from brett. he moved back to new york. this makes me sad but it makes him happy so i guess that makes me happy. earlier that night andy made chili for ashton and i so we were very stinky, even outside which meant that it must have been VERY stinky. luckily matt and brett are true men's men and did not mind. chris ferguson took this picture and then farted on my shoulder. it was a strange night, full of farts and friends.

fight the fatties!

MSNBC reported that there LA okayed a one year moratorium on building new fast food restaurants in low-income neighborhoods to fight obesity. An interesting solution to a growing problem, and the first of its kind. Read more here.

puppet!

yesterday i decided to get off my ass and create something! i'm not much for crafts, so every "thing" i try to make is very trial and error. i don't really know how to sew, but i figured this would be okay. i wanted to make a cactus flower creature, but i didn't really know how to cut the felt, so it turned into a psuedo orange fruit puppet with a yellow flower hat. i asked ashton what i should call it and he said "ashton", but i thought he said "pasta", so that's the name. Pasta the Happy Orange Puppet.

living camera

savants are unexplainable and unfathomable much of the time. the things that their minds are capable of doing are beyond 95% of any human comprehension. (that's just a guess. i'm making up the number.) here's a video of an english savant who has been hailed as the "living camera".

dream?

I had a dream last night that I was babysitting a little girl who had a scorpion tail, so I was kind of walking on eggshells around her and she knew it. So she stabbed me in the right hand with it and it hurt very badly. When I woke up my hand was tingling and I was really tense. I wonder what this means.

dogma

is a hilarious movie. i just joined netflix also. the two are unrelated besides the fact that they both are/are related to cinema.

Let's talk about dry drowning. Sounds crazy, right? Apparently not! Kick back, relax, maybe make an iced chai, and read.

2029

I Googled my street address and the only match was "Mac's Convenience Store" in Kalamazoo, Michigan. This is a weird coincidence because I have been seeing a plethora of Michigan and other out-of-state license plates lately. Clearly this is a conspiracy to take over the former Southern capital, and I for one will not stand for this northern aggression a second time.

I also Wikipedia'd "2029" and found out some interesting predictions for that year.

Predicted events
* Friday, April 13 — The asteroid 99942 Apophis (previously better known by its provisional designation 2004 MN4) will pass within 30,000 km (18,600 mi) of the Earth, very briefly appearing as bright as 3rd magnitude. A possibility exists that Apophis could go through a 400 m wide "keyhole" on this pass which would have put Apophis on a collision course with the Earth in 2036 [1].

* Music by Buddy Holly will enter the public domain this year.

* The FBI will have permission to reveal to the public the Top Secret papers on John F. Kennedy's assassination. (!!!!!!)

* The second of two Metonic twin eclipses will happen on December 20. The first twin eclipse will occur on December 21, 2010. The twin eclipses are separated by 19 years.

* Raymond Kurzweil predicts machine intelligence will equal one human brain intelligence as stated in his work on Futurism The Singularity Is Near based on Moore's Law.

2029 in fiction
Computer and video games
* Deus Ex (2000): JC Denton's "assigned birth date" is March 17.

* Shadow of the Ninja also known as Kage and Blue shadow the events unfold of Emperor Garuda taking over, and the ninjas overthrowing him.

Manga
* Ghost in the Shell: Public Security Section 9 is established.

Film
* The Terminator (1984): Kyle Reese and a Terminator are sent back in time to 1984.

* Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991): Two Terminators, a T-800 and a T-1000, are sent back in time to 1995 to, respectively, protect and kill John Connor as a ten year old child.

Television
* Six Feet Under ("Everyone's Waiting," 2005): Keith Charles is shot and killed by robbers seizing the contents of his armored truck.
* Race to Mars, a fictional show about a manned expedition to Mars, takes place between 2029 and 2030.

None of this matters though because the world is going to end in 2012 anyway. crap. that doesn't leave much time now that I think about it....
