Born Ugly mag

Holy cow. What a week. Things have been absolutely insane for me, so TGIF to the maxxx! Still, a bright spot in the week came from the news that Issue 1 of Born Ugly mag is now a reality! Jim Callahan (aka Barf) is already a Richmond underground icon with his memorable Municipal Waste art, Nowhere Skateboard line, and Tales from the Underground comic (check it out at Velocity- best place in Richmond for your comic and graphic novel needs). The link above is to the online .pdf of the mag, so be sure to snag a print copy wherever you can. Michael Brock of Wilted Roses was kind enough to pop one in the mail for me, so whenever I get that will be a happy day. If you're in the Richmond area, be sure to get to the launch party tomorrow, Saturday May 9th at Holly Street Park at 4 pm. I'm sure it will be a debaucherous event filled with only the finest of Richmond's youth!

Domino!

The gallery shop director at Quirk, Katie Ukrop, is featured in this month's Domino Magazine, and there's been a flurry of press around Richmond about it! I saw this article on inRich.com, and the slideshow is a nice little peek into her home on Grove. I have to say, I absolutely love Katie and her family. They are some of the most truly wonderful, open, welcoming, and genuine people I have ever had the privilege of working with/for. Anyone who has anything bad to say about them has to answer to me.

The release party at Quirk was a fantastic little affair. I haven't been down to Quirk for awhile since I stopped working there, so it was really nice to see my former coworkers and catch up on all the gallery gossip. Sometimes it got boring working at a desk, but it was nice being surrounded by art and creativity. Hopefully I can find a good gig in California!

I NEED COFFEE

As of Saturday, I'll be in Costa Rica for a week! A week of relaxation, sun, sand, many many cocktails, volcanoes, and rainforests, and then I return to Richmond for the Southern Graphics Council printmaking conference! Oh boy! The entire painting and printmaking department is shutting down for a week to host this pretty significant event, (keynote speakers are the husband/wife team heading up Art on Paper) and in honor of that event, here's a print of mine.

Swindle Magazine

I just picked up my first issue of Swindle, an arts magazine that I hadn't heard of before but thought it looked cool. Weirdly enough, it was! Created by Shepard Fairey? Joel Speasmaker of VA fame as a comics editor? Yeah, I'd say it's cool.
Featured in this issue is an article about Dalek, who is awesome. If you see one, you should definitely pick it up. So awesome.
